Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPSC)
is the nodal agency for recruiting fresh graduates and postgraduates for
various positions in general and departmental services in Andhra Pradesh. These
State Government services, like the Central Civil Services (see Brochure on
UPSC), offer some advantages over similar opportunities in private or
self-employed sectors. These include: reasonably good and assured pay with
regular increments, dearness allowances, housing & city allowances,
provident funds, retirement benefits, variety of leaves, including study leave,
and other benefits like regular opportunities for promotion as vacancies occur,
to senior positions upto Chief Secretary to Government, etc. Removal from
service happens only if charge-sheeted, and with due and open process of
enquiry, mostly for criminal and illegal activities. These services provide an
opportunity to serve in various sectors of the economy.
These A.P. State Government positions are
divided into four categories, viz. Group I, Group II, Group III, and Group IV.

Young persons aspiring to enter these services
should plan to appear for the various competitive examinations conducted all
over the State, as specified in the following sections, and go through the
other stages of the selection processes, including interview etc. Selection is
based on constitutionally mandated principles of non-discrimination. However,
there are quotas for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes(STs), and Other
Backward Classes (OBCs), etc., and in some services, representation from
Regions in the State.

(APPPSC) conducts the following examinations under Group I, but it doesn’t have
a fixed schedule unlike Union Public Service Commission ( UPSC ).

Group I
Preliminary
Age-Limit: 18-39 years.
In case of SC, ST and BC candidates, another five years have been added to the
upper limit, making them eligible to apply till age of 44 years.
Educational
Qualification: A Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University in India
established or incorporated by or under Central Act, Provincial Act, a State
Act or an Institution recognized by the U.G.C. or an equivalent qualification.
Scheme of
Examination: It is only a screening test. Marks obtained in this exam are not
added to the Mains. The Preliminary Examination consists of only one paper of
150 objective type questions carrying a maximum of 150 marks. It consists of
General Studies, GK, Aptitude, and Reasoning.
Main
It consists of 6 papers including General
English, which is a qualifying exam. According to the new syllabus there are no
optional papers – all are compulsory. Scheme of the Examination is given below:

The General English paper is for qualifying one and the standard of
this paper is that of S.S.C. The minimum qualifying marks in this paper are 40%
for OCs, 35% for BCs and 30% for SC/ST/PH.
These marks are not counted for Ranking.
Group II
Age-Limit: For most of
the positions the age limit is 18-39 years. However, certain categories of
persons as specified in the Notice are eligible for age relaxation.
Educational
